Also niche is pronounced neesh not nitch
Why wouldn't you just cut the bench top back the entire length of it instead of just a notch in front. That way the wall tile can fit behind it and not be cut at all
A 2x4 is also an acceptable answer.
So with this method the tiles are installed on to drive walls rather than hardiebacker?
Another very informative video, thanks. For a DIYer like myself, dos and donts are so helpful.
So far one of the best tutorials. Thanks
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@HomeRepairTutor Id like to know if you have video for preparation and framing of the shower before starting to install the wall membrane and the pan.
@@henryian yes, I have videos that explain that inside my Video Library at homerepairtutor.com
@@HomeRepairTutor Thank you again. I already subscribed to your channel. Your tutorials are very detailed and helpful. Im starting a ground up so it would be from framing. I will back and forth following step bay step of your tutorials, especially on water proofing and installation of shower install.
I know the guy is a professional but when he's cutting the circle on the tile you can see his thumb is close to the blade cut. thats not a good demonstration on how to cut the tile people are going to do the same thing ,and can loose a finger, bad example to show.. like I said he might be good but he's not aware of how to teach the right way..
top-notch camera angles. Also consider having a large lined wastebasket for quick disposal of goopy paper towels, etc.
Why in the world would you pay that much for one shark bite ?
It depends on the user, if you’re a homeowner, anything under $75 is probably worth it versus having to schedule and pay a pro to do it - especially if the repair is over the weekend
Dont shark bites leak like crazy?
Only if you don’t prep correctly and push them on partially
Yes, they are time bombs. I've made good money on after Hrs Calls just for this. Thankyou sharkbite!
@@trevorstevenson4772 only if people don’t prep
They are temporary fixes not permanent
It's an SB 3 bracket
DOES NO ONE SOLDER ANYMORE
I still solder but understand why homeowners prefer SharkBites. You need a lot of supplies to do it right and it does take some experience. Plus there’s the fear of igniting the home and having a water leak
Maybe fitting manufacturers are different, but the brand I use says not to use the pipe stiffiners on the copper side, only pex connections. I respect all the videos you put out. Always well done!
Thank you 🙏 years ago I called SharkBite and asked them if pipe stiffeners can be used with copper. The answer is yes, they can be used with copper as well as PEX
May i ask you why you cut it? I need to move my vent because i want to go from a tub to shower base, but it’s interfering. I’m lost, help!!!!! Lol
I needed to convert from a single vanity to a double vanity and the new vent tee had to be above the flood rim or more than 42 inches off the floor
You are suppose to run the underlayment horizontal to the direction of your planks. You ran them both the same direction.
Worked like a charm. I did not even have to disconnect anything. Thank you.
if someone marks the fittings and pipe that's how you know they don't know what they doing
No, incorrect - this is to show that precision is important and to fully explain what needs to be done to make the trap adapter be exactly where I need it. If you want to be sloppy with the location you’ll pay the price with these prefab vanity cabinets that have the trap between the sliding drawers. No to mention the fabrication of the vanity top offset the drain from the 8” square opening in the back of the cabinet. So no, you’re incorrect on many levels
I wish someone could unclog my pipe 😮💨
How this guy has not caught his face mask strap in any of the saws. Accident waiting to happen
Great video and tips. I'm a retired finish carpenter and never did a floating floor. I'm doing this in my home and feel ready to go. Thanks !
Thank You Bro, i was panicking when the sink was clogged, but thanks to this guide i fixed it🙏
Excelente ,, se escucha muy bien 👍
Gracias
do you need some sort of primer between osb and the modified thinset? worried about moisture loss to osb
I heard German at first listen.
Good video. The NPR shirt was a nice touch, as well.
What type of drill bit did you use to drill the holes into the studs?
You’re a pro 👍 make it so easy.
Dumb. If you've ever set a toilet, unnecessary. Setting one should take 45 minutes, I charge $250-300 depending. I've set hundreds of toilets, and NEVER had a leak. When you caulk the base, required by code, leave a 1" gap at the back, in case someone breaks the seal by leaning back down the line. If you ever see water you'll know the seals broken and wont ruin the flooring.
This isn’t for you, it’s for the first time DIYer and a good tip for them. The gentleman who gave me this tip is a 40 year Master Plumber at Oatey. I like the idea and shared it for that reason. My job isn’t to please you or make a new digital friend, it’s to help the homeowner who’s never done this before
Is the wall tile beveled?
Yes, the wall tile that is the niche perimeter is also beveled
Seems like the bench should have a slight fall towards the drain instead of level so that it can't build up water?
A little over the top... get better with a saw zaw and you wouldnt need to mount boards and bring c clamps to the job site to make 2 cuts to add a tee 😂
It’s one method, and who doesn’t have clamps on a job site?
@HomeRepairTutor me. And I've done new construction plumbing for over a decade now. Not saying the method didn't work, I just said it was over the top. I get it was close to drywall, and you didn't want to damage it with a saw. But you adding the board reduced your play in the pipe, causing the cut to be harder
Wow !! 😃What An Excellent Plumbing Repair Tutorial Video Which Can Save One $100+ Or So Dollars From A Plumbers Charges In This 2024 Day & Time Thanks A Million Guy For This Superb Video Share. 😁🙏
Make sure its level? 😅
Yes, because the tile above it, which overhangs the niche, is level. Thus, the tile inside the niche also has to be level to create an even miter joint. Details count
What tile saw is that
It’s the IQ 228, great saw for small tiles and making bevels for miter joints
@HomeRepairTutor thank you. I do mainly bathroom repairs and remodels. This looks perfect for that.
Isnt that the saw that shoots the water backwards into your face? Lol hopefully not! My buddy had one that did! I wanted to throw it off the roof!
Heres my tip for tiling niches… dont! Corner shelves made out of a 1/4 circle of stone fulfill the function of a niche , take less than half the time to install, look better imo and if someone drives a nail or screw in the wall opposite the bathroom to hang a picture or whatever they wont end up with a shower niche repair as well! Ive seen it happen you doubters! And you dont have to worry about waterproofing a niche which are notorious for water damage! After a while a shower is just a shower! Like it or not when the newness wears off a shower and its required maintenance is forgotten about! A niche is the last place you should forget when it comes to maintenance! caulking etc ! At the very least you should put a solid 1 piece of marble or granite for the bottom of your niche that comes past the plane of your wall about 3/8” to form a drip edge!
Extreme environments like whatever polar region this guy lives in makes sense for 70% America can use standard screw on sweeps...
Wow, sorry this is too much work, there are screw on sweeps that are quicker to install...
Wax rings go on the horn of the toilet first then you set it on the flange. I know everyone does it this way just wanted to point out the manufacturers instructions and what a master plumber told me.
How do you measure your cuts of the wall???
